Roaming Robots at RIAT 2010 - 17th & 18th July
Team Bud attended the popular Roaming Robots sideshow event at RIAT 2010. Friday night was the socialising night where after arriving at the campsite to pitch our tents and drop the robots off at the pits marquee within the RAF Base, we had a bit of socialising with some roboteers having a few drinks and snacks. Shane and Jason brought along the Team Bud Station, the massive set of speakers that we plugged Shane's ipod in to listen to music, everyone enjoyed it,(except maybe perhaps Babs from Team RCC lol).
Saturday was the start of the battles, Thor lost its first fight against Big Nipper and the Saint after getting dropped down the pit but won the next against Toon Raider, Scorpion and St Hammer on aggression. On Sunday it beat Tilly Evo as well
Envy won its fight on Saturday against the newly improved Gravity and Merlin and on Sunday Beat Apocalypse, Crossfire & Mantis.
Unfortunatly, Iron-Awe 5 the Team Bud Challenge holder couldn't make the event so we pitted Beast against Weird mAlice for it. Weird mAlice won the challenge and is now the current holder. Well done Ian, Steve & Mark!
Overall, a very good event with some planes, sunshine and dancemoves in the beer tent late at night!

Robots Live! - East Fortune - 19th & 20th June 2010
Robots Live! hosted their first event in Scotland as the major attraction at the "Into The Future" event held in the Concorde hanger at the National Museum of Flight. I (Liam) attended this event alone with Storm Force & Pug. Pug took a lot of punishment over the course of the weekend, getting its batteries pierced at one point by Satanix, flipped OOTA more than once by Little Flipper and getting clubbed by Battle Axe.
Storm Force had 2 battles. The first we weren't sure about the gas system of Storm Force so it had to fight weaponless against Toon Raider & Apocalypse and ended up stuck on my side after being flipped by Apocalypse where I couldn't roll back down despite the shape. The next, after getting the weapon system sorted the day before, I fought Kronic and Big Nipper. I never got to use my weapons on either as Kronic flipped me which dislodged a connection between 2 relays from the inside and couldn't well due to the ground clearance being a bit bad and ended up in the pit.
Overall, a great but exhausting weekend :)
Roaming Robots at Guildford - 13th June 2010
For a 4th time running, Team Bud came to the Roaming Robots event at the Guildford Spectrum. This event was also the last qualifying round of the 2010 UK Championships and after all the points were added up, Thor has now been added to the top 10 going into the semi-finals at Portsmouth.
Robot Points
| Meggamouse | 30 |
| Iron-Awe 5 | 30 |
| Ripper Evo | 30 |
| Maelstrom | 30 |
| Tilly Evo | 30 |
| Toon Raider | 28 |
| Iron-Awe 6 | 26 |
| Thor | 26 |
| Beast | 26 |
| Big Nipper | 20 |
Iron-Awe 5 also succesfully defended the Team Bud Challenge flipping Toon Raider out the arena, overall an enjoyable event.
Robots Live! in Norwich - 22nd-23rd May 2010
We also attended the Robots Live! event in Norwich 2010 which had a difference. It was host to the first team championships which was organised by the Iron-Awe team who were raising money for charity. Envy & Thor were teamed with Toxic 2 & Iron-Awe 6.
The Team Challenge consisted of challenges like pool, football and many more, we lost our semi-final battle to Jonno's Team Barbie, Nuff said about that... But we did however manage to win 3rd place in the play-off
Iron-Awe 5 also succesfully defended the Team Bud Challenge trophy in the Team Bud Challenge against Ripper Evo by flipping them out the arena.
Robot Rumble in Brentwood - 2nd May 2010
Team Bud also attended the Robot Rumble in Brentwood which was also the 10th anniversary for the show being on. Thor won its competition fight by default as Orrion and St Hammer our fellow opponents for our competition fight couldn't make it! Envy also only had one battle and our own Thor also had a try at Ripper Evo to wrestle off the giant nut from Jonno. Jonno flipped us all over the arena until we eventually landed in the pit.
Robots Live! in Burgess-Hill - 24th & 25th April
Jason attended Burgess-Hill alone with Thor as Shane couldn't make it due to family commitments. Thor had its first win of 2010 in its competition battle against Weird Malice and the 2010 edition of Scorpion and Maelstrom the title holder of the Team Bud challenge sadly had its crown knocked off by the all-conquering Ripper Evo, lets see who can take them on now....
Roaming Robots in Nottingham 2010 - March 28th
Team Bud also attended the 3rd round of the UK Championships 2010 at Nottingham. This event was also the debuting event for the new Envy which performed well in its battles against And His Army, Stinger and Ripper Evo.
Thor meanwhile took part in a whiteboard fight before its competition fight and sheared the shaft for its own weapon after firing it once meaning we couldn't use the axe for our competition fight against Cabrakan 2 and Tiberius 4. After Cabrakan had disintegrated by Tiberius and was shoved down the pit, we had to spend the majority of our fight getting pierced by the pincer and finished 2nd in the battle again.
The Team Bud Challenge saw Tilly Evo take on holders Maelstrom. Tilly got under it a few times but Maelstrom retaliated and flipped Tilly around the arena before putting it out. Major Damage also got a bit bored and preceeded to give Maelstrom the same treatment! Maelstrom are still the holders and will be back at Burgess-Hill to defend it, can they keep hold of it? Wait and see.
Robots Live! in Whitwick 2010 - February 27th & 28th
This event was the first event for Thor of 2010 and was also the 2nd round of the 2010 UK Championships. Our competition fight was with RL's resident robot Merlin. We did well giving Merlin a few hits with our axe, but Thor's recent rebuild had a design flaw which unfortunatly damaged its own weaponry and unable to self-right in the end so we won 3 points for being 2nd in the fight, video is on the video page.
Next was the first battle to kick off the Team Bud Challenge Trophy. Maelstrom and Beast were the 2 robots picked to compete in the battle, the winner would become the holder and defender at the next event, video is shown below.
The fight was very even to start off with but it ended with Beast in the pit and Maelstrom the winner.

Well done Maelstrom and Will Thomas, for becoming the Team Bud Challenge holders to start the year but can they keep a hold of it at Nottingham? We'll see you there...
Roaming Robots in Barnsley 2010 - February 13th & 14th
The first event of 2010, I (Liam) attended this event alone with Storm Force, Pug, Puglet and Chameleon my half-finished Battle Rat as Shane and Jason couldn't get Envy and Thor complete in time for the event. Storm Force took part in the final melee of the first show driving around very fast like a rat out of the traps dodging Major Damage, unfortunatly the flipper was firing automatically and the axe never worked due to dodgy pneumatic systems and it was over when Tiberius 4 shoved it in the pit.
Pug was moving very ponderously in its fight as it was needing adjustments to its ground clearance making it stop frequently and it wasn't long before Whirlpool shoved it into the pit.
Chameleon took part in its first Battle Rat event only half-finished but was about the slowest in the assault course and still managed to complete it!
Overall a really good event and thanks to Andy for letting me drive Dantomkia in the competition fight against Iron-Awe 5 :). Pictures can be found here> http://s276.photobucket.com/albums/kk1/LiamBryant_photos/Robot%20Events/Barnsley%202010/

Roaming Robots in Wigan 2009 - December 6th
This was the last event of the year and also the finals of the UK Championships 2009, Team Bud had qaulified through to the UK Championships finals at Wigan with Thor. Our Round 1 fight we had And His Army & Terrorhurtz. We had fitted Thor with a long pointy axe-head to take on Thz and And His Army had been fitted with the cusioned top. We got plenty of hits on both robots as did Terrorhurtz on And His Army and us, but lady-luck had turned as we had lost drive on a motor and had been beaten by Terrorhurtz, the machine that went on to win the tournament. Thor also took part in 3 whiteboards where in the first one we did well giving a few machines some hits with our hammer but we lost drive on one side again and were stuck underneath the arena flipper for the majority of the fight. The next we were doing well to stay in until we were flipped out by Iron-Awe 5 where we got our own weapon tangled in his bungee cord in the process! The next one after that was very hectic and violent with the new weapon on St Hammer and some of the biggest flippers like Iron-Awe 5 & Beast in the arena as well. Thor again did promisingly hitting lots of robots like Merlin but we ran out of gas and were flipped at the end and couldn't self-right in the last 10 seconds.
Storm Force took part in only one whiteboard with Hydra, Iron-Awe 6 & Crossfire. I (Liam) never could get Storm Force moving a lot, It sat like a sitting duck throughout most of the fight even though I did manage to get it moving occasionally where it would always stop again. After being clubbed by Major Damage and flipped twice by Iron-Awe 6, Major Damage picked us up, paraded us around the arena before dumping us out of it. When we took it back to the pits after the fight, it was revealled that the antenna had broken and we had to cut off a bolt after it got damaged.
Pug, Liams featherweight took part in a WB only as well, it lost the connection from the flipper to its motor in the fight but managed to survive some flips from Wedgie & LF3. The low ground-clearance also made it stop and start throughout the fight, it did well until it was flipped by Beauty at the end of the fight where its batteries fell out :(
At the end of the show, there was the Roaming Robots 2009 awards were all the winners were given certificates. We were voted as the team having the Most Improved robot (namely Thor) and also won the Best Event Award which was RIAT 2009 which we hosted way back in the Summer. Overall a really enjoyable event, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

July 18th-19th Royal International Air Tatoo
Teambud had a really good event with the robots performing well yet again tho there were a few blonde moments for jason driving down pits and stuff but that can be blamed on the night before and drinking far too much beer. Teambud took along the mobile bar which we think went down well. Saturday was a nice day with a god airshow backdrop for the robot battles. Sunday was wet and poo. We got to the final in the football competition which ended up in a draw but really teambud won. Well we think so anyway.
Got to thank John Lear for being such a cool friend. Cheers mate.
Next year we plan bigger and better things. Maybee.
There have been more events teambud have attended but we have just been too busy to do event writeups. The good news is that both robots are doing very well and we are pleased. Guildford saw a really good event for both Thor and Envy with both robots winning just about every fight.
The next event for us will be the Royal International Air Tatoo at Fairford. We plan to have a chilled event what with no competitions going on. Plenty of beer and pics to come i am sure.
For now............. TEAMBUD RULES
Barnsley event 14th February.....
Envy and Thor did the first roaming robots event and were very pleased with the results. Evny won its competition fight against kan Opener and thor had a good win against DTK. We decided to pull Envy from the final and just enter Thor and it prooved to be a good desision as Thor went on to win the event. Short write up i know but there you have it. Onto the next event which will be Cardiff. Envy should be running much better there after having niggles.
Dublin Event, January 2009.
Our first event took us to Dublin with a selection of chosen robots to battle it out in an arena with no pit and no flip out zones. Suited us and Thor. Our first fight was with Pressure, was a close fight but wih the hits we got on Pressure and being the more aggressive won us the fight.
The next round saw us fight an Irish robot called Stan also with a hammer weapon. (SEE VID ABOVE) We hoped we could get the upper hand which is what we did and ended up winning the fight with Stan breaking down.
Iron Awe was our next oponent, a robot we have never seemed to beat with Thor. We spoke tactics and went into the fight pretty confident. Iron Awe is not a robot to be underestimated and we respected it completly. Thor did some excellent driving and with a couple of well placed hits we managed to disable the weapon of Iron Awe by chopping wires inside the robot. Very pleased with that win we went on to the final.
And what a final it was drawing the might of Behemoth. With its excellent driver (Kane) he managed to get under Thor and not leave it alone to recoup. Thor got a couple of hits but didnt manage to do damage with the hits we got in. Eventually Thor had a motor break and we was down to 1 motor and going in circles. The mighty Behemoth did the job and won the final. We of course were very proud of Thor and were pleased to just get to the final.
A very good event and nice to socialise with roboteers. Well done to everyone who went and we hope we attend the same event next year. More videos will follow shortly.
